Volume 22 of Island Journal focuses on young people who have chosen an island way of life. Their stories, set on Islesford, Long, Chebeague, Vinalhaven, and Swan’s Island, complement those of a young islander making a documentary about her home, an island parent trying to gently guide the perspectives of her young-adult children, and the magic created by an inter-generational storytelling project at a remote coastal high school. The center folio of color-splashed paintings by Maine native Connie Hayes reflects her travels along the coast from Deer Isle to Cliff Island.
